Chinanews, Beijing, May 31 – Over the years, juvenile delinquency rate has kept rising in China. Among the total number of people arrested by Chinese procuratorial institutions, the proportion of young people is increasing. Among all types of crimes committed by young people, 90 are related with infringement of human rights, infringement of democracy, property offense and offense of social public order, the Legal Evening News reported.
Apart from the above three trends, an official from the Chinese Supreme People's Procuratorate said that juvenile delinquency has showed some new trends. Young criminals are more organized and their crimes involve more violence than before. In addition, the crimes they commit are more like adult crimes. In some cases, the way they commit crimes are very cruel, jeopardizing social stability.
Statistics show that in 2003, Chinese procuratorial institutions arrested 69,780 juvenile delinquents, and in 2006, the number had climbed to 92,574.
From 2003 to 2006, the number of young criminals arrested by Chinese procuratorial institutions increased by 32.66. Information shows that in recent years, juvenile delinquency increased far more rapidly than adult crimes.
